Friday Night Fights: Meet Tomas Kopecky
The Hawks signed Tomas Kopecky away from the Red Wings this offseason. Kopecky's a 3rd or 4th line player who likes to hit and can handle himself defensively.
What he cannot do, is fight.
Kopecky's been in two fights that I can remember. One was against Patrick Sharp two seasons ago, a fight in which Sharp handled himself well. Kopecky's other fight came against Francois Beauchemin of the Anaheim Ducks during the second round of this year's playoffs. That fight is the reason you don't remember Kopecky doing anything against the Hawks in the Western Conference Finals (he missed the rest of the playoffs) and why you now know who Justin Abdelkader is.

If Kyle Beach, Ben Eager, Tomas Kopecky, and Adam Burish make the team next year, they'll start calling the Blackhawks Everlast because they're stocked to the rafters with punching bags.

Good luck with Kopecky. We found him to be something of a jackoff-of-all trades. He did a bunch of things mediocre. Want a third line grinder? You got it until he gets walked around or misses a check. Want a scoring touch? You got it the one game out of 40 where he looks like Hossa Jr.
The one positive thing I will say about Kopecky is you'll be hard-pressed to find a guy who works harder than he does on the ice, provided his reckless abandon doesn't create another season-ending injury.

Hey, we already know what Ben Eager brings to the table. When are you going to give us a scouting report on Kopecky?

The good news is that, unless the refs can speak Czech, he's a lot less likely to get multiple game misconducts for running his mouth.

Kolacky is Lenny to Hossa's Squiggy. I think the Hawks had to take both as a package.
